Lady Gaga – Born This Way Foundation

Lady Gaga (Stefani Joanne Angelia Germanotta) is famously known as a singer, songwriter, and actress. She has broken boundaries with her musical versatility, style reinventions and is also a co-founder, alongside her mother (Cynthia Germanotta) of the Born This Way Foundation.
The Born This Way Foundation was set up to support the mental health of young people. The foundation works alongside youths to aid them in building a kinder and braver world. The aim of the foundation is to “make kindness cool” by working with partners, having youth-led conversations and implementing high-impact programming. The foundation strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental help and in turn ensure young people’s emotions are validated.
The foundation creates programs that provide a platform for healthy conversations surrounding mental wellness to take place, whilst connecting young people with resources and services that will support their mental health through their partnerships.
The foundation operates both online and offline and builds youth-focused programs launching engaging campaigns to help build community and encourage action.
Programs
Channel Kindness
This program allows people to read about everyday acts of kindness that shape and fill our daily lives within our communities. The program was launched in 2016 and over 250 youth reporters have been trained to recognise heroic acts of kindness within their everyday lives. Young people everywhere can participate in this program. The content has been seen by over 6million people, in 2020 the CHANELL KINDNESS book was released including 51 stories of kindness.
Teen Mental Health First Aid
The foundation teamed up with the National Council for Mental Wellbeing to bring teen Mental Health First AID (tMHFA) to the United State. The training is carried out in-person and strives t teach high school students about mental health challenges whilst providing them with information about how they can support their own mental health or help a friend who may be struggling. This program equips young people with the knowledge and tools to foster their own wellness and support their peers. The program has expanded to over 80 schools across the US (May 2020). In addition to this, in 2020 a further 100 schools across the country participated in the program.
The foundation launched the #BeKind21 campaign in 2018 to encourage people to practice an act of kindness for themselves and people around them each day from September 1st to September 21st to help build kinder, well-connected communities that foster mental wellness.
